We count our blessings

Merry Christmas 2014After a year filled with wonderful travels to destinations near and far, we feel blessed to spend Christmas at home, in the quiet (and with fingers crossed for a snow flurry or two before the holiday is done).

The holiday season in Basel brings several other great traditions as our calendars flip to a new year. The Basler Wunschbuch (Basel Wish Book), in the courtyard of the Town Hall, will be open for wishes and signatures until 6 January. Buglers on the balcony of the Minster will serenade the crowd gathered in Munsterplaz, before fireworks over the Rhine welcome 2015. And on 1 January, in an only-in-Basel event, wine will flow from the fountain at the foot of the Cathedral Hill.

Happy New Year
Once a year, on New Year’s Day, Baselers queue at the foot of the cathedral hill in Basel for a cup of wine, dispensed from a city fountain.
